Palliative care helps terminally ill cope with pain & symptoms...
Men, women and children at terminal stage of illnesses like cancer face difficult times which are compounded by grief, expenses and pain. At this stage, it is imperative that such patients receive better personal attention in the form of pain management, quality and nutritional food and emotional support.
Palliative care is the treatment focusing on reducing pain and symptoms, so that the patient can bear the ordeal. Such palliative care does not involve any curative treatment, because the disease would have progressed to the terminal stage.
Provide palliative care to patient in a hospice or at home…
Hospices are the places where palliative care is provided to terminally ill patients of cancer, HIV, thalassemia and so on. The hospices also see to it that the patient’s emotional and spiritual needs are met. Some hospices conduct recreational and entertainment activities so that patients are able to divert their minds off from their distressed physical condition.
Many hospitals and palliative care centres also provide home-based palliative care with doctors and nursing staff making regular visits to attend on the patients. Ultimately, the objective is to ensure that the patients spend their last days with peace, dignity, care and love.
